Join acclaimed author, film critic and curator Adrian Martin and monster movie expert Dr Barbara Creed from the University of Melbourne for a discussion of key themes in the ‘Kiss of the Beast’ film program, including the phenomenon of Hollywood monster movies, early adventure films, and the history of special effects in cinema. Adrian Martin is an author and film curator. He is also critic for The Age (Melbourne), and has won several awards, including the Pascall Prize for Critical Writing (1997). Books by Martin include Phantasms (1994) and Paul Ruiz: Magnificent Obsessions (2004). Dr Barbara Creed is Associate Professor of Cinema Studies in the School of Art History, Cinema, Classics and Archaeology, University of Melbourne. Her research areas include feminist and psychoanalytic theory and contemporary film. Her books include The Monstrous-Feminine (1993) and Pandora's Box: Essays in Film Theory (2003), while she is currently writing The Darwinian Screen: The Evolution of Film Theory.
