Cooper and Schoedsack filmed this production at the same time as King Kong, utilising some of the same sets and actors. Game hunter Robert Rainsford (Joel McCrea) meets his match in this sadistic psychological thriller based on Richard Connell’s 1924 short story of the same name. Rainsford is en route to adventure when his ship strikes a reef in a dangerous stretch of the Pacific. Eccentric Russian exile Count Zaroff has deliberately moved the buoys marking safe passage and lures shipwrecked survivors to his island castle. When Rainsford discovers Zaroff’s horrible secret, he must fight for his life and the life of Martin’s sister Eve (Fay Wray).
