Film title and details: Trader Horn (1931)
  Film stills: Trader Horn (1931)

Loosely based on a book by real-life trader Alfred Aloysius Horn, this film stars Harry Carey as Horn, on safari with his sidekick (Duncan Renaldo) and his African guide Rencharo (Mutia Omoolu). They encounter a missionary woman on a search for her long-lost daughter Nina (Edwina Booth). Like Tarzan’s Jane and Kong’s Ann Darrow, the sexual allure of Nina as a ‘white woman gone native’ is used to hold this film together. The film’s spectacular jungle footage stunned mainstream American audiences when it was released in 1931, and it was nominated for an Academy Award.
