Film title and details: Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
Film still: Creature from the black lagoon (1954)

Scriptwriter Harry J Essex attributed much of the inspiration behind this monster movie classic to the tale of the beauty and the beast and to the original King Kong (1933). Marine scientists Mark Williams (Richard Denning) and David Reed (Richard Carlson) take Kay Lawrence (Julie Adams) with them on a river-boat journey into the Amazon jungle to investigate a mysterious archaeological discovery. On reaching the Black Lagoon they discover the Gill Man (aka the creature), an amphibious, prehistoric monster. Provoked by the scientists’ intrusion into his domain, and his obsession with the beautiful Kay, the creature begins to murder the cabin crew. Creature from the Black Lagoon was the first 3-D film to include underwater footage, including beautifully shot scenes capturing erotic underwater interplay between the creature and his beloved.
