Mummified for 3700 years, Egyptian deity Imhotep (Boris Karloff) is accidentally brought back to life by British archaeologists. Upon awakening, the mummy’s sole purpose is to be reunited with his lost love, princess Anck-es-en-Amon. Modern-day heroine Helen Grosvenor (Zita Johann) is the ancient princess reincarnated. Unaware of her former life, Helen is soon found by Imhotep. The archaeologists try to protect her but the mummy’s mesmerising powers hamper their attempts. Released ten years after the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb, The Mummy capitalised on this new-found fascination with Egypt.
